Triaxial deformation experiments deliver a full set of parameters for rock characterisation. Combined with acoustic emission monitoring and advanced post-processing, evolution and mechanisms of failure are elucidated. 

Our expert network covers a number of laboratory techniques that are used for the experimental determination of key rock mechanics, rock physics and fracture mechanics parameters.

Fracture mechanics

These parameters complement the standard definitions for reservoir models but also give indications of stability, compaction, anisotropy, injectability, and frackability.

In addition to the standard testing we perform custom tailored and specialised experiments such as proppant embeddment or hollow cylinder testing and combine the setups with advanced acoustic emission monitoring.

Comprehensive Characterisation From Limited Samples Like Cuttings

Even from limited amounts of rock samples such as large cuttings, side wall plugs or standard core we can determine the most important input parameters to petrophysical models such as Young‘s modulus, compressive strength, tensile strength or Mode I fracture toughness.
